Once a referral is received from VFTAC, MH FACT enact an appropriate response.
This may include facilitation of a mental health assessment with a view to a Psychiatric inpatient admission, assessment for the purpose of treatment planning and care, engagement with the consumer and liaison with relevant services, initiation of a case conference to determine and clarify roles and responsibilities of respective services and to clarify a short term treatment and establish short term goals.
As part of the ongoing care, MH FACT will monitor the ongoing mental health treatment and risk via the clinical treating team and provide treatment, care and support as indicated.About the RoleThe purpose of this role is to provide Clinical Governance and oversight of enhanced clinical services for those at risk of serious offending, especially through violent behaviour.
It also encompasses working closely with the Team Manager to contribute to the ongoing development of enhanced clinical services that support and complement the work of the Victorian Fixated Threat Assessment Centre (VFTAC).
VFTAC is a service for the identification, assessment and service planning for individuals believed to be at high risk of targeted acts of aggression.
Monash Health and Melbourne Health have been funded to provide direct clinical care, consultation support and brokerage services to those identified by VFTAC, and to support other AMHS to manage these consumers.The Consultant Psychiatrist reports to the Service Director, Adult and Older Adult Mental Health and will be delegated under the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act to undertake the statutory responsibilities.
The Consultant Psychiatrist is required to participate on key committees as required by the Service Director.
The Consultant Psychiatrist will work with the MH FACT Team Manager to ensure the development and maintenance of a comprehensive mental health service.
The Consultant Psychiatrist will provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team, enable and ensure safe, high quality, evidenced based, detailed and comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, formulation, risk management, care planning and delivery, followed by appropriate discharge planning to consumers of Monash Health and other AMHS as required, their families and carers.Medical model of care at Monash Health is "consultant led".
