Join the Sydney Informatics Hub to innovate at the crossroads of science and technology Full time, fixed term contract until November 2026 Base Salary $121,508 - $137,032 17% superannuation Hybrid working arrangement About the opportunity The Sydney Informatics Hub (SIH) is a University of Sydney Core Research Facility serving academics and researchers across all faculties through the provision of comprehensive research data services. The SIH have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer co-sponsored by Australian Biocommons to deliver cutting-edge data analytics and management tools for the life sciences. In this position, you will coordinate a cross-institutional team and contribute to the Australian BioCommons’ BioCloud, which delivers national computational infrastructure for life-sciences through platforms like the Australian Cardiovascular Disease Data Commons Project, computation platforms like Seqera Platform, Galaxy Australia, and other related projects such as a common Authentication and authorisation infrastructure (AAI) infrastructure. BioCloud supports key national priorities, including precision medicine, biosecurity, and environmental conservation. Your key responsibilities will be to: collaborate with Australian BioCommons and SIH teams to develop cyberinfrastructure supporting the life sciences lead a portfolio of impactful software development projects co-develop and establish an AAI infrastructure across all of Biocloud’s services integrate, build, and enhance open-source software platforms, optimising them for integration with commercial cloud and HPC systems develop cloud-based web-applications and customise software solutions to meet life science researchers’ needs contribute to the strategic direction of SIH and the BioCloud project in alignment with leadership guidance provide technical mentorship to software engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation ensure operational excellence through code quality, documentation, and team collaboration. This is an opportunity to enhance advanced open-source software and work with technologies like commercial cloud, high-performance computing, and web-based platforms. About you postgraduate qualification or an equivalent combination of experience and/or training in a relevant field extensive professional experience in frontend and backend development, predominantly in Python, React, and NextJS proven experience with modern software engineering best practices including source code management, version control, integrated testing, and CI/CD experience with agile development strong organisational skills, with the ability to handle competing priorities in a fast-paced environment excellent written and verbal communication skills able to engender positive collaborations and engagements excellent project management skills, demonstrating the ability to collaborate effectively and manage competing priorities to meet required timelines.
