KPMG Law’s highly regarded national team of Tax Dispute Resolution and Controversy specialists have extensive experience assisting clients in preparing for, managing and resolving tax risks and disputes, whilst maintaining an effective working relationship with revenue authorities. Our busy, dynamic and growing team are looking for lawyers who have experience in tax, tax law and tax disputes. KPMG Law’s Tax Dispute Resolution & Controversy team are known as leading experts in this field and have been recognised in the legal 500 and International Tax Review (amongst others).
This role is open to applicants interested in a full or part-time role – with true flexibility provided to successful candidates through KPMG’s market leading leave and flexible/hybrid working models.
Your Opportunity
In joining, you will have the opportunity to be a key part of our growing team - advising a broad range of clients including large multinational and domestic taxpayers, the Top 5,000 taxpayer population and high wealth individuals on the many domestic and cross-border tax issues they are dealing with, in what is a complex and rapidly changing world. The role will involve:
* Working with our clients in preparing for, and resolving, their disputes with the ATO, AusIndustry and State / Territory revenue authorities, including working on complex reviews and audits, preparing objections, briefing counsel, alternative dispute resolution processes and tax litigation in State and Federal tribunals and courts.
* You will have the opportunity to work with a range of clients and subject matter specialists across KPMG and externally to develop your written and oral advocacy and dispute resolution skills and provide legal advice (including taxation law and administrative law).
* Our team works nationally on most engagements, so all team members have an opportunity to work across all domestic jurisdictions with partners and team members from other States.
* Collaboration with many other specialist groups across KPMG’s Tax & Legal practice in Australia, as well as internationally (many clients are multinationals), is also a feature of many of the team’s engagements.

* Previous experience in corporate tax, international tax, tax law and/or tax dispute resolution and controversy in either a Big 4 professional services firm, a law firm or the Australian Taxation Office, with prior Big 4 experience viewed favourably
* Ability to quickly establish a high level of stakeholder engagement, and able to hold the role of an advisor to the business and be an expert on a topical area(s) of tax law
* Ability to integrate information from a variety of different sources, consider the broader impact of issues and how it will affect the project, engagement and the business
* Strong interpersonal, influencing and project management skills, as well as an ability to motivate and work as part of a high-performing team to achieve outcomes
* Ability to enable career progression for high-potential people by identifying development needs and providing guidance and knowledge to assist those people to further increase their skill set. Ability to lead on people initiatives, role modelling our values in all aspects of work
* An honest and ethical approach to business, which will provide a natural fit with our values
* Australian and/or other Commonwealth country legal experience
Qualifications
You must have a Law Degree to be eligible for this role.
