The Software Engineering function in Ultra supports the software development lifecycle consisting of requirements analysis, design, implementation, test and verification in order to deliver
software components into projects and products and supports the deployment and maintenance of software components.
A professional at this grade possesses knowledge for specific fields and performs structured work assignments. Uses established procedures to solve problems by making judgments and gets work done with quality under moderate supervision. Has limited discretion to vary from established procedures.
Primary Responsibility
The Software Engineer is a team focused role responsible for the design, development, implementation and maintenance of software applications at Ultra Maritime Australia. As a Software Engineer, you will be expected to possess strong problem-solving skills, working effectively in a collaborative environment with other Engineering disciplines to develop robust systems. You will work closely in cross-functional teams to understand requirements, design scalable solutions and deliver high-quality software.
Key responsibilities will include:
* Design, develop and maintain software using industry best practices and standards.
* Write efficient and maintainable code that adheres to company coding standards.
* Conduct code reviews to ensure quality and provide feedback to team members.
* Maintenance of software including debugging and testing
* Improve and develop CI/CD software pipelines with company integrated toolset.
* Development testing of code to ensure highest quality software.
* Participate in all development process as laid out by Software Team Lead to create an effective team environment.
* Produce software documentation where required.
* Participate in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) activities to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
* Promulgate Ultra Maritime vision, strategies, goals and initiatives.
* Uphold, safeguard and promote Ultra Maritime’s values.
Key Competency Requirements:
* Knowledge with Java, C++ in Object Oriented Programming.
* Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools. Optionally Docker, Jenkins, Gerrit.
* Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle
* Experience with operating systems and DevOps.
* Understanding of Ultra Maritime Australia’s Company Standard Procedures.
* Understanding of the interface between Engineering and other areas of Ultra Maritime Australia.
