Our client, a leading health service in the Greater Shepparton area, is looking for a Mental Health Triage Clinician to provide telephone-based triage services as part of the Enhanced Triage Service.
About the Role
The Mental Health Triage Clinician plays a pivotal role in mental health assessment and initial engagement of clients, ensuring access to appropriate treatment, advice, and resources. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality evidence-based screening and assessment overnight, addressing mental health concerns and supporting clients on their recovery journey.
As part of the Enhanced Triage Service, which is one of the key entry points into the Mental Health Program, you will ensure all referrals across adult, child and adolescent (CAMHS), and aged mental health services are processed efficiently, contributing to the development of safe, effective, and appropriate care plans.
This is a 24/7 rotating roster position with a focus on leadership, collaboration, and client-cantered care.
Key Responsibilities
* Initial Mental Health Triage Assessments : Perform thorough mental health triage assessments, including intake and risk assessments, to determine appropriate action and referrals.
* Management Plan Development : Develop and monitor individualised support and management plans for clients, ensuring they receive timely, appropriate interventions.
* Leadership & Supervision : Provide guidance, support, and leadership to the multidisciplinary team, including less experienced clinical staff.
* Stakeholder Collaboration : Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance client care and program outcomes.
* Clinical Excellence : Ensure high-quality clinical care, upholding consumer rights, and maintaining best practice standards.
* Crisis Management : Offer immediate clinical support and advice to the Inpatient Unit (IPU) and other teams as needed, especially during overnight shifts.
* Evidence-Based Practice : Actively contribute to quality improvement programs, clinical audits, and research to improve consumer care and service delivery.
* Professional Development : Engage in continuous professional development, mentoring colleagues, and supporting ongoing education within the team.
Key Selection Criteria
Mandatory
* Registration : Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (RN), with a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing (or equivalent).
* Experience : Minimum 5 years' experience in mental health service delivery, with expertise in psychiatric assessment and care planning.
* Clinical Expertise : Demonstrated ability to provide psychiatric consultations, manage dual diagnoses, and apply the State-wide Psychiatric Triage Scale.
* Communication : Highly developed interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
* Recovery-Focused Practice : Commitment to applying recovery-focused principles in triage and clinical practice.
Desirable
* Tertiary Education : Completed or undertaking further education in mental health nursing or related fields.
* Specialist Experience : Experience in mental health service delivery for child/youth and/or aged psychiatric populations.
