About the role
Orica is a global leader in the provision of innovative solutions for the mining and infrastructure industries. As our Integrated Extraction Simulator (IES) product continues to experience strong market growth, we are looking for a passionate Metallurgist Specialist to join our Brisbane-based Technical Services Team or Perth-based Technical Services Team.
As a Metallurgist Specialist for IES, you'll play a key role in helping our clients optimise their mining and processing value chains. You’ll use advanced simulation tools to develop, configure, and optimise flowsheets for a variety of applications including greenfield concentrator design, debottlenecking existing plants, circuit improvements, life-of-asset scenario planning, and Mine-to-Mill decision support.
You will work closely with clients to understand their challenges, analyse data, and deliver tailored solutions that drive efficiency and sustainability. This role also presents an exciting opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of the IES software platform, including innovations in data analytics and machine learning.
What you will be doing
* Technical Solution Design:
o Engage with customers to understand challenges and drive Orica's Digital Solutions growth;
o Collaborate with internal teams to identify technology and service opportunities;
o Conduct customer visits (in-person/virtual) and present value propositions to improve plant efficiency and reduce costs.
* Data Analysis:
o Review ore characterisation, block models, fleet management, and plant data;
o Analyse data for comminution, classification, and flotation processes.
* Flowsheet Development:
o Configure and optimise flowsheets from engineering reports and mill surveys;
o Run simulations, perform mass balance, and calibrate equipment (comminution, flotation, leaching).
* Process Model Development: Understand mining value chain processes. Assist in the development and validation of equipment models using physics and data science.
* Client Liaison: Gather and report on mining and processing data. Travel to client sites when needed, manage project activities, and communicate outcomes.
* Team Participation: Collaborate with the development team to build necessary software tools.
* Commercial Support: Contribute to sales materials and develop case studies on successful technology implementations.
What you will bring
* Undergraduate or higher degree in metallurgy / mineral processing / chemical engineering;
* 5+ years’ experience in processing;
* 2+ years’ experience modelling and simulations;
* Familiar with mineral processing ore characterisation test work;
* Understand commercial project requirements and timeframes and be able to react accordingly;
* Previous experience as plant metallurgist or senior metallurgist.
