Position Summary
Member Service Assistant- Actively greets members, verifies membership card, maintain entry/exit count records. Provides high level of member service and performs warehouse safety and security checks. Checks member receipts at exit and thanks member.
Front End Assistant-Packing member orders into boxes, and transferring member orders to a separate cart or flatbed after they have been scanned or keyed. Runs for items as needed. Proper safety procedures and standards. Maintains courteous member service at all times while monitoring a smooth flow of members through the registers.
Front End Cashier-Processes member orders, collects payment while providing a high level of member service. Performs clean up, department set-up and closing tasks as necessary. Maintains courteous member service at all times.
Job Duties/Essential Functions
Member Service Assistant:
* Conducts hourly building safety and security checks including walking the building and perimeter
* Corrects safety and security problems encountered, such as spills, trip hazards and blocked exits
* Fills out reports and shows results to the duty manager
* Attends warehouse safety meetings
* Welcomes members entering the warehouse - approaches, smiles, makes eye contact and greets
* Verifies membership card, offers cart (removing rubbish if necessary) to all members
* Keeps entrance/exit area clean.
* Clicks a handheld counter to members entering and exiting the warehouse
* Reports half-hourly counts to Front End Supervisor and records counts on weekly reports
* Monitors building access and reports arrival of armoured transport vehicle to duty manager
* Discretely observes armoured deposit pickup, jewellery and register drawer set up and pick-up while holding panic button
* Checks backpacks, lunch pails, briefcases, strollers, etc. at exit
* Greets exiting member
* Checks accuracy and validity of member’s receipts and compares to merchandise
* Arranges speedy assistance for any member correction or concern
* Defaces receipt with hole puncher
* Provides and arranges prompt and courteous member service
* Directs members to product and service locations
* Enlists assistance for loading, shopping, etc.
* Dries off wet carts
* Watches after hour exit door discretely from private vehicle and reports door area status by 2-way radio before doors can be opened for employees
* Drives building perimeter for security checks
* Watches closing managers leave
* Reports suspicious activity to duty manger and calls policy if necessary
Front End Assistant:
* Greets members, helps members load merchandise on the conveyor belt, asks member packing preferences, answers questions, relays information on special promotions, and thanks members
* Transfers items not on the belt to a separate cart or flatbed as cashier scans items, placing barcodes up for the cashier when possible
* Assists with getting supervisor verification for high-ticket, Bottom of Basket, or non-transfer items
* Packs member orders into boxes and loads them on a separate cart or flatbed
* Checks packaging for tampering and reports it
* Assists members with loading orders into car when appropriate
* Retrieves items such as boxes, register supplies, and merchandise requested by members to keep lines moving smoothly
* Maintains the cleanliness of the register and general Front End area, reports and cleans spills and trip hazards immediately
* When needed, retrieves carts and flatbeds from the parking area using a rope with clasping hook, pushing no more than 10 carts at once
* Keep front of building clean
* Follows proper Front End and general safety procedures and standards
* Assist in other departments of the warehouse as necessary
* Provides prompt and courteous customer service to members, employees and suppliers
Front End Cashier:
* Provides prompt and courteous member service by greeting members, obtaining membership cards, determining member packing preferences, answering questions, relaying information on permanent/special promotions, and thanking members
* Records the sale of items to the register by moving merchandise across the scan window, using a hand-held scanning gun or, if necessary, the 10-key pad
* Transfers or ensures the transfer of each item as the item’s barcode is scanned while adhering to all safety and security procedures
* Promotes accurate merchandise inventory by monitoring the accurate scanning of all merchandise passing through the register
* Requests Supervisor verification for high-ticket, Bottom of Basket, or non-transfer items
* Ensures the register’s cleanliness
* Orders change, cash increases/loans when needed
* Makes witnessed drops/deposits of excess funds to the vault, orders cash increases, and counts own register at shift end to maintain accurate register funds
* Receives accurate payment for merchandise; makes change, processes cheques, credit and debit charges according to proper departmental procedures for paperwork and the performance of duties
* Assists in the opening and closing duties of the Front End department; placing returned or moved product back to their allotted spots in the warehouse, collecting register paperwork, stocking registers, cleaning the Front End area, and retrieving carts
* Stays updated with company and regional Front End productivity guidelines
* Follows proper Front End and general safety procedures and standards
* Assists in other departments of the warehouse as necessary
* Provides prompt and courteous customer service to members, employees, and suppliers
Ability to operate vehicles, equipment or machinery
* Computer, printer, phone, camera, card printer, calculator, credit/debit terminal, cash register, cash machine, copier, table top/handheld scanner, 2-way radio, carts, flatbeds, clasping cart ropes, pallet jack, step ladder, rubbish compactor, cardboard/shrink wrap baler, rolling mop bucket with wringer, large wheeled bins, mop, broom, click counter, personal vehicle
Qualifications (Costco-specific or industry specific skills that candidates should possess)
Education/Training:
* High School Certificate or higher

Experience/Skills:
* Customer service, sales, membership, cash handling, loss prevention/security or comparable experience
* Strong customer service, communication, interpersonal and organisation skills
* Data entry and data management
* Basic knowledge of Google Suite (Docs, Slides, Sheets) and AS400
* Basic math skills
