Plumbers are required to provide plumbing support to the Air Force's deployed infrastructure. Your role involves the installation, maintenance and repair of water reticulation, drainage, and treatment systems, and other plumbing equipment. Principal duties concentrate on deployed conditions both within Australia and overseas. Such activities could also be undertaken at major Air Force bases and at isolated temporary Air Force airfields or construction sites within Australia.
You may be required to work shifts or participate in deployed operations with the Army in remote areas located within or external to Australia. You will receive training in general and specialist vehicle operation and will be required to support other trades in the performance of their duties. You'll also participate regularly in ground defence exercises where you will be required to provide temporary water reticulation and sewage treatment services.
Plumbers are able to progress to the rank of Corporal. After completing Construction Foreman training, promotion to Sergeant, as a Works Supervisor, is in competition with your peers from the other Airfield Engineering musterings. Further training in construction and project management is completed to follow a career path up to the rank of Warrant Officer. Available positions for training are dependent upon workforce requirements.
