The bank's Australian Operations departments is a dynamic and integral part of our business, encompassing teams such as Payments, Settlements, Reconciliations, Regional Call Centre, Client Regulatory Reporting and Business Improvement. The department handles the manual processing of payments and settlements totalling billions of dollars.
We are currently seeking a General Manager, Operations Australia to join our team in Sydney due to an internal movement. This senior management role will collaborate closely with Rabobank Australia's Executive Team and the COO Domain's leadership team to support and achieve the bank's strategic and operational objectives.
As the General Manager, Operations Australia, you will be designated as a Responsible Manager under RG146 and will hold delegated accountabilities under the FAR regime.
Key Role Accountabilities:
* Oversee the Operations budget and allocate resources to ensure the COO Domain Performance Dashboard targets are met.
* Develop and implement short, medium and long-term Operations strategies aligned with global and local requirements to best service the business in Australia.
* Collaborate with product teams to define and deliver the payments strategic roadmap across all business lines.
* Actively participate in global, regional and local meetings/conferences as required.
Customer Service
* Identify customer and business needs and develop appropriate operational solutions.
* Establish and monitor SLAs, measuring service delivery against KPIs for stakeholders and customers (e.g. Net Promoter Score).
* Implement a waterfall/dashboard approach to ensure key operational requirements, risks and controls are identified, monitored and reported at all levels.
Governance, Control and Risk Management
* Partner with the Head of First Line Risk and Security, Operational Risk, Compliance and Internal Audit to ensure Operations has a robust operating control environment.
* Champion risk awareness across all areas of Operations.
* Manage the Business Continuity and critical process resilience requirements of Operations.
* Prepare reports and papers for the Board, Committees and Executives as required.
Leadership
* Lead the Operations team (approximately 100 direct and indirect reports), ensuring staff are well-equipped and trained.
* Foster collaboration and alignment between departments to deliver high-quality service and outcomes to stakeholders.
* Build on the talent management and resourcing strategies to meet team objectives.
* Cultivate a culture of trust, open feedback and inclusivity encouraging diverse thought and ongoing leadership development.
Operational Excellence and Innovation
* Reduce inefficiencies and rework by increasing knowledge through coaching.
* Work with LEAN/Six Sigma SMEs to establish, maintain and improve best practice processes, driving efficiencies and reporting on ROI quarterly.
* Challenge the norm through continual reassessment of processes, create a culture of continuous improvement.
To be successful in the role, you will have:
* 15+ years' experience in banking and finance, with a strong focus on operations.
* Proven experience in senior management positions including holding a Responsible Manager role under RG 146.
* A track record in building and motivating customer-focused teams.
* Experience managing large teams of 50 or more people.
* A solid understanding of payments and credit lending.
* Excellent written, verbal communication and negotiation skills.
* Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate and influence at all levels, including Board, Executive and Senior Management.
* A deep understanding of risk management within the financial services industry and related regulatory standards (Basel, APRA and Reserve Bank of New Zealand Standards).
* Strong commercial, business and strategic acumen.
