Aboriginal Counsellor, Domestic Family Violence and Sexual Assault Service Our client is committed to empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities by providing culturally responsive health and support services.Their mission is to offer healing, advocacy, and support for those affected by domestic and family violence, sexual assault, mental health challenges, and family dynamics.They work holistically, collaborating with local agencies to deliver essential services that prioritize safety, cultural connection, and empowerment for children, families, and individuals navigating or recovering from trauma.About the Role In this role as an Aboriginal Counsellor within the Domestic Family Violence & Sexual Assault Service, you will play a vital part in delivering culturally safe and trauma-informed counselling to Aboriginal individuals, families, and children.This is an opportunity to use your skills and understanding of Aboriginal culture to support those affected by domestic violence and sexual assault.You'll be a key link between Aboriginal communities and local agencies, ensuring services are accessible, respectful, and effective.Key Responsibilities Provide trauma-informed therapeutic support tailored to individuals and families, including risk assessments, safety planning, and advocacy, with a deep respect for cultural needs.Work closely with Aboriginal communities and service partners, building strong, respectful relationships to enhance access to culturally appropriate services.Conduct client assessments, manage cases, and participate in collaborative planning, ensuring all support aligns with cultural and therapeutic best practices.Participate in an after-hours on-call roster to provide crisis intervention, ensuring a reliable support system for those affected by sexual violence. About You Relevant qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field, with professional registration and demonstrated experience in trauma and therapeutic support for Aboriginal communities.A strong understanding of Aboriginal cultural needs, intergenerational trauma, and a commitment to supporting community wellbeing.Experience in community engagement, risk assessment, and counselling, with the ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with Aboriginal communities.Willingness to participate in continuous professional development, including clinical and cultural supervision and relevant training. Essential Requirements Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent (as required under the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW).Current NSW driver's license and willingness to travel as part of the role.Vaccination Compliance : Fully meet NSW Health vaccination requirements with documented immunisation history.Dedication to fostering a culturally safe, respectful, and inclusive workplace.
