The Senior Scientific Officer - Climate Change (PO4) sits within the Planning and Conservation unit of the Authority reporting directly to the Manager, Planning and Conservation. The position will support the successful delivery of climate change actions identified in the Wet Tropics Strategic Plan 2020-2030, the Wet Tropics Board's 10 Point Plan, and other initiatives as they arise.
The Senior Scientific Officer - Climate Change works across relevant programs of the Authority including the Yellow Crazy Ants, World Heritage Connections and Business Management teams. Key roles of the position will include developing projects and funding applications, engaging external stakeholders and partners, providing technical support as required in the delivery of climate change related projects and communication materials, and managing projects.
Your role within the team is to collaborate and engage with a wide variety of clients and other agency personnel, including with representatives from the scientific community, tourism industry, Rainforest Aboriginal Peoples and their organisations, conservation groups and community groups.
The Senior Scientific Officer - Climate Change will have expertise in leading and supporting development and delivery of climate change related activities and have a robust contemporary understanding of climate change science and the complex economic, political, social and environmental context in which the Authority is seeking to influence positive action. Through regular, proactive communication, the Senior Scientific Officer will help to develop the Authority's role as a leader in climate change action in the Wet Tropics region, and the State of Queensland.
In the Senior Scientific Officer - Climate Change (PO4) role, you will play a key role in the successful implementation of climate change actions identified in the Wet Tropics Strategic Plan 2020-2030, and the Wet Tropics Board's 10 Point Plan, including:
• Supporting integration of climate change into all aspects of the Authorities business, and ensure activities are well coordinated to achieve effective outcomes
• Lead development of new projects and funding proposals to support climate change work
• Provide expert scientific technical support to assist the implementation of climate change activities and communication materials for the Authority
• Undertake regular communications with Wet Tropics stakeholders, government, the public and potential funders to develop collaborative climate change programs
• Research, review, analyse and synthesise complex climate change information for advice for policy decision making
• Manage specific climate change projects as directed
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current issues and stakeholder perspectives in relation to Climate Change
• Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people.
