Head Veterinary Nurse or 2IC - Specialist Referral PracticeAnimal Eye Care is the pre-eminent Veterinary Ophthalmology Clinic in Australia and continuing to grow.After 8 years in clinic, our Head Veterinary Nurse has decided to step away from clinic life and focus on raising her young family. This means we are seeking a Superstar Head Veterinary Nurse or 2IC to join our existing veterinary and nursing team on a permanent basis.Full-time work of 38 hours Monday to Friday is offered. We have now moved to a four-day working week to help with work/life balance. Part-time work will be considered for the right candidate. Weekend work is not part of the normal roster, but we do have a rotating on-call roster averaging around 1 in 6 weekends.Animal Eye Care was the first stand-alone veterinary referral practice in Australia and has set the standard for providing the highest level of patient care and veterinary ophthalmology for over 30 years. We are also the leading practice in terms of providing continuing veterinary education to veterinarians throughout Melbourne and Australia.We value the work/life balance of our team and offer above award remuneration to qualified and experienced candidates.Responsibilities as a Head Veterinary Nurse/2IC:Monitoring patient comfort and vital signs and maintaining patient charts during anaesthesia.Administering medications and maintenance of IV catheters.Communicating with clients as required, especially with detailed explanation of discharge instructions.Maintaining a high standard of ward and surgery organisation and cleanliness.Instruments cleaning and sterilisation.Reception duties including triaging of emergency cases, booking appointments, and liaising with clients and referring veterinarians.Working as an ophthalmic assistant (once trained) - this involves taking ophthalmic history and basic eye examination tests such as PLR, menace, Schirmer Tear Test, and tonometry.Head Nurse/2IC Role:Overseeing day-to-day running of the clinic.Equipment maintenance.Rostering (including on-call).Ordering including stocktake.Mentoring and training.Fortnightly & monthly catch-ups with nurses and support staff.Yearly reviews with Practice Manager.Accounts.Qualifications, Skills and Attributes:Minimum of 5 years nursing experience.Minimum Certificate IV or equivalent experience.Exceptional customer service and strong communication skills.Flexible team member that gets along with all personalities.Mature and responsible.Australian citizen or has visa work rights.No prior experience in Ophthalmology is required; we do all the training.Leadership experience advantageous but not essential.Able to delegate tasks.Excellent time management and organisational skills.Animal Eye Care can offer:Working with a team of dedicated and hard-working professionals (both veterinarians and veterinary nurses).Opportunity to learn more about veterinary ophthalmology.Dedicated Vet Nurse assistant to help with daily tasks so Veterinary Nurses can focus on patient care.Dedicated receptionists.Attractive remuneration and benefits.A workplace that is supportive and strives to always be a pleasant place to work with an outlook that we must always be kind to each other.
