Sugar Australia has an exciting opportunity for a Shift Team Leader to join our Production team in a permanent full-time capacity, based at our Racecourse Refinery in Mackay, QLD.
Reporting directly to the Production Manager, this role will oversee and coordinate the daily operations of operators, ensuring a proactive and efficient work environment for the production and distribution of refined sugars.
The primary focus for the role will be to optimise the team's operational performance while upholding safety, quality, and productivity standards.
Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Coordinating and implementing production plans, ensuring the efficient workflow of refined sugar products.
Overseeing and managing a group of operators to optimise operational efficiency through effective shift handovers and task distribution.
Collaborating with the maintenance team to troubleshoot and resolve issues, ensuring timely completion of tasks.
Communicating daily with systems, engineering, and administrative teams to address and resolve production-related issues.
Identifying opportunities for process, equipment, and resource efficiencies to reduce operating costs.
Ensuring waste is minimised and production targets, including GMP compliance and customer satisfaction are met.
Ensuring all equipment is maintained to high cleanliness standards to avoid contamination risks.
Coaching, mentoring, and developing team members through on-the-job training and feedback.
Role hours:
This position involves a 12-hour rotating shift pattern, covering both day and night shifts, including weekends.
What we're wanting you to bring to the table:
This role is ideally suited to someone with strong leadership and operational skills in an industrial environment.
Tertiary qualification in Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Management, or relevant technical qualifications.
Trade qualifications (Fitting and Electrical) or experience in the sugar industry are desirable.
Minimum of 5 years' experience in an industrial environment with supervisory experience.
Experience in an FMCG or food manufacturing operational environment is desirable.
Experience using SAP is desirable.
Strong decision-making abilities and critical thinking.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to motivate and lead a team, driving high performance.
Strong planning, organising, and multitasking skills to meet production targets.
Strong safety focus with a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks.
Mechanical aptitude and experience with process equipment and systems.
