The Director Clinical Operations (DCO) is a new senior leadership role within the Division of Surgery. The main purpose of the DCO Surgical Services is to provide direction, leadership and management for complex multidisciplinary teams delivering inpatient and outpatient surgical and procedural care; with a focus on optimisation of planned (elective) surgery access and flow.
The position works in a partnership with other Directors of Operations, Heads of Departments, Nurse Unit Managers, Allied Health, administration, and corporate services teams to deliver safe, effective, efficient, high-quality, sustainable, equitable and ethical services and inspire a shared vision, model the RCH values and create a culture that enables innovation and maximises workforce potential.
The role also works closely across Divisional and corporate services to facilitate connected and collaborative care. The role will inform the development of business cases, major projects, business improvement initiatives and business planning activities in partnership with General Manager and Chief of Surgery. The Director of Clinical Operations, Surgical Services will be responsible for 5 clinical areas and wards and will provide operational support to 11 clinical units.
Your skills and experience:
1. Extensive knowledge of surgical service delivery in an acute health service setting with proven ability to manage and lead effectively within a complex health service
2. Strong experience in health service operations management and strategy, including clinical and business management as well as management and reporting of Elective Surgery Access performance
3. Extensive experience in senior management of large teams in a public hospital setting involving activity-based funding
4. Proven capacity for leadership in a team environment and ability to work well as a senior member of the team responsible for operational and people management activities
