Your primary objective is to develop and implement forward-thinking safety initiatives that not only comply with legislative requirements but also enhance safety culture across the TAFE Queensland North region.By fostering collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement, you will drive a mature safety culture, driving risk mitigation and injury prevention.You will report to the Director, Safety, Infrastructure and Operations, and will work closely with leaders to align safety efforts with organisational goals.This is a Permanent, Full-Time opportunity. The position will be based primarily at either Cairns or Townsville; however, you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.Key ResponsibilitiesContribute to the success of transformation and cultural change through promoting and modelling the established values of Safety First, Working Together, Focussing on our Customer, Taking Responsibility and Showing Initiative.Live and encourage a positive safety-first culture, leading by example, actively engaging and educating others to integrate safety practices into day-to-day operations that align with organisational objectives.Manage the WH&S Team and oversee the investigation, analysis, and reporting of workplace incidents, near misses, and emerging risks, ensuring all lessons learned are effectively communicated, and corrective actions are implemented.Coordinate the Safety Steering Committee and coordinate the consultation and collaboration of WH&S Team along with Health and Safety Representatives, Building Wardens, First Aid Officers, and Mental Health First Aid Officers.Represent the Health and Safety Team at committee meetings and forums and provide recommendations regarding best practice and future movement of Health and Safety matters, including providing options, where necessary, to support the region's alignment with legislation.Contribute to the professional reputation of the TAFE Queensland by keeping staff informed of changes to Health and Safety legislation, developing and maintaining networks and fostering collaborative partnerships, internally and externally to the region.Collaborate proactively with internal stakeholders including faculty management and educational delivery teams to ensure Health and Safety matters are dealt with appropriately, efficiently, and in accordance with the requirements prescribed within procedural or legislative frameworks.How you will be assessedThe ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:A successful track record in managing work health and safety across multiple sites, establishing a positive safety-first culture within the organisation.Strong collaborative and consultation skills, with experience working with diverse internal and external stakeholders.Deep understanding of work health and safety regulations and risk management, coupled with a track record of implementing innovative, data-driven safety solutions.Exceptional communication skills, demonstrated by the ability to produce comprehensive reports, submissions, and recommendations for senior management.Ability to inspire innovation and thrive in dynamic, changing environments.Demonstrated commitment to the values of the organisation through modelling of behaviours and the provision of outstanding client service.Mandatory RequirementsExtensive experience leading and managing a team of Workplace Health and Safety professionals.Queensland Driver Licence as travel is required across the region.Highly Desirable RequirementsFormal qualifications in Workplace Health and Safety.How to applyIf you're interested in this role, click the 'Apply' button to submit your application via the TAFE Queensland Recruitment Portal.
