The Office of Minority Health Resource Center (OMHRC) is seeking a Technical Services Librarian, who will report to the Knowledge Center Manager.Principal ResponsibilitiesAssist the Knowledge Center Manager in the development and maintenance of in-house databases and the Online Public Access Catalog.Index and write abstracts for database records according to established guidelines. Collection records may include individual journal articles, books, government documents, and literature produced by nonprofit organizations.Catalog and input at least 150 new records into OMHRC databases on a monthly basis. Production may vary depending on contract requirements.Regularly review and evaluate the quality and consistency of the OMHRC database records, in collaboration with the Knowledge Center ManagerAssist in identifying books, reports, and journal resources for inclusion in databases on a variety of health topics.Use electronic online systems to identify and retrieve new resources.Electronically preserve new journal articles for the collection daily. Digital records include deep linking to online subscription full text articles, DOI identification, copyright compliance verification.Using the existing template, compile the Biweekly Journal Articles newsletter which is distributed to all OMH/OMHRC staff. Production may vary depending on contract requirements.Assist in writing brief weekly abstracts for “Recommended Readings” in the FYI Newsletter.Physically maintain the book and journal collection, including digital archives.Assist in deaccessions and inventories of collection content.Assist in maintaining serial subscription content, including the set-up of vendor and journal tracking records in both the integrated library system and the OpenAthens single sign-on .Develop library announcements, informational handouts, and topic bibliographies for staff members, and for the OMHRC website, as requested.Work with the team on the annual database update project by editing basic contact information in catalog records and updating dead links.Be aware of editing basics for 508 compliance in library reports; onsite training is available.Assist Knowledge Center Manager in responding to reference inquiries, as needed.Participate in OMHRC educational and outreach events to promote OMHRC services.The Technical Services Librarian will perform other duties as assigned by the Librarian, Project Director and/or Deputy Project DirectorMinimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; Masters in Library Science or equivalent advanced degree preferred.- Previous experience indexing or abstracting database records required. Experience in health science library a plus.- Excellent writing ability and attention to detail is required.- Excellent Internet and database research skills needed. Experience utilizing INMAGIC GeniePlus integrated library system is a plus.- This position requires good verbal communication skills and the ability to interact well with a diverse professional staff and the public.The employee will need to have a comfort level in working with information sources related to medical information, minority health, health statistics, and scientific terminology included in titles and abstracts for document records.This work requires some physical labor, including pulling documents from higher bookshelves, and occasional lifting or shifting boxes of up to 40 pounds.
