Indirect Tax Specialist

In this role, you will be responsible for managing indirect tax compliance obligations and supporting the maintenance of our employee benefit plan for the Group.

Ways of working
This position can be situated at either our headquarters on the Sunshine Coast or in our Fortitude Valley office.
We operate with a hybrid approach, requiring office presence from Tuesday to Thursday on location, while offering the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.
If you are based in Brisbane, you will be required to travel to HQ two days per week.
Key priorities
Improve the Group’s indirect tax processes, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and supporting strategic initiatives.
Ensure timely and accurate preparation and submission of indirect tax returns (e.g., Duties, Levies & GST), and assist with the preparation of the Fringe Benefits Tax and income Tax Returns and ESS Statements.
Develop and document efficient processes and controls for indirect tax lodgements and assist with tax audits and responding to tax authority inquiries.
Stay updated on changes in indirect tax legislation and assess their impact on the business.
Collaborate with finance, accounting, and legal teams to provide indirect and employment tax guidance on various projects and transactions.
Contribute to the disclosure of indirect and employment taxes in financial statements and audits.
Administer indirect tax systems and assist with regular system reviews and improvements.
Assist with ESOP compliance, tax risk management, and maintain the taxation aspects of the Finance risk register.
About you
A relevant business degree.
A post-graduate qualification (desirable, such as CPA, CA, or Master of Taxation).
Experience in indirect tax compliance or consulting, ideally within a corporate environment or public accounting firm (2+ years’ is a general indicator).
Experience in the General Insurance Industry is an advantage, though not required.
Strong attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities with a focus on meeting deadlines.
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
Proficiency in Excel and Word (at least intermediate level).
