The Data Scientist will collaborate with researchers to conduct high-quality research, scholarship, and creative activities that generate significant outputs, guided by experienced mentors in the research team. This role is connected to Australia's Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS), a national collaborative research infrastructure supported by the Australian government to monitor Australia's marine environment through systematic observations. These observations produce publicly available data streams via the Australian Ocean Data Network (AODN) and support various research and operational activities across academia, government, and industry.
As a Data Scientist, your responsibilities will include:
* Conducting high-quality research, scholarship, and creative activities to generate impactful outputs
* Engaging collaboratively in novel and high-quality research or creative activities
* Communicating research outputs as part of a team
* Evaluating the impact of academic activities on the field and community
* Supporting applications for funding research and creative activities
* Becoming recognized for quality, excellence, and impact through a body of work
To succeed in this role, you should have:
* A PhD or Master's qualification in physical oceanography or data science, or equivalent expertise
* Experience with Matlab and/or Python, and code repositories using collaborative approaches
* Proficiency in computing skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and data visualization
* The ability to travel domestically and internationally for conferences, events, and representation
