The Program:
The Navigator Program is an intensive, targeted education support service where Case Managers work in collaboration with schools, young people, families, and external stakeholders to find ways to achieve educational goals. In 2023-24, 847 young people were supported to re-engage with their education through the Navigator program.
About the Role:
You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team, comprising of a Team Leader, Intake and Assessment Workers, Senior Case Managers, and Specialist Workers. You will be working with Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander youth and families to support young people (12-17 years) who have disconnected from school. With a focus on connection to culture and community, you will help young people identify their skills, interests, and aspirations while alleviating barriers to their participation in education alongside their parents/carers.
Key Responsibilities:
Connect young people with community and culture while understanding cultural values and protocols relevant to Aboriginal communities.
Demonstrate ability and experience in Aboriginal case management with young people, families, and/or significant others.
Contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of student re-engagement plans.
Utilize extensive case management experience, drawing from a variety of appropriate frameworks and theoretical approaches.
Build rapport with children and young people presenting with complex challenges such as mental health, disability, and trauma.
Exhibit excellent written and oral communication, negotiation, and liaison skills.
Work effectively with government and non-government organizations, community groups, and clients’ families/networks.
Possess knowledge of school environments and educational policy.
