Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (Hancock Operations), you will be responsible for overseeing the overall operational efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of contractor mining. The role provides strategic leadership to ensure the successful execution of business strategies by managing and optimising operations and ensuring operational alignment with organisational strategic goals.
The position also plays a critical role in shaping the company culture by fostering an environment of continuous improvement and collaborating with cross-functional teams/entities to drive operational excellence aligned with the Atlas values and vision.
Duties: Provide visible leadership in driving positive health, physical and psychosocial safety, and environmental sustainability behaviours consistent with the Atlas core values and HSE Standards. Ensure that the designated Mine operations are complying with their operating license, conditions and obligations including all legislative requirements. Lead initiatives to embed desired leadership behaviours, ensuring that behaviour and leadership development are integral to performance reviews and goal setting. Build strong working relationships with all Leadership Team members and contribute to the development of business strategies and objectives. Cultivate and sustain positive, collaborative working relationships across the Organisation, Operations Group, and other Hancock entities. Engage with relevant community stakeholders and influential bodies; build sustainable relationships to identify mutually beneficial objectives and initiatives that will deliver positive outcomes for Atlas and the local community (includes Indigenous community and Native Title Claimants). Lead the establishment of our new mine, McPhee Creek, and integrate McPhee into the Contract Mines operating model, maximising synergies with the existing Atlas operations. Oversee the technical services operations to ensure operational targets are met. Be accountable for resource optimisation including personnel, assets, and materials to maximise output of operations. Ensure accountability of contractor performance against contractual obligations. Drive the joint Operations strategy and the integration of the functions and operational teams. Analyse key operational metrics and provide data-driven recommendations to inform decision-making and strategy adjustments. Continuously evaluate and improve operations to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and maximise productivity. Drive innovation and technological advancements in mining operations. Support leaders in managing organisational change, ensuring they model resilience and adaptability in periods of change, integration, and transformation. Skills and Experience: Relevant academic qualifications in Engineering or an associated field. At least 10 years' overall experience, including 5 years in an equivalent role. Strong resources industry experience. Proven track record of success in strategic operational roles with accountability for safety, production, and cost. Experience in leading and developing strategy, business planning, and driving the execution of strategy and business plans to deliver on objectives. Experience in successfully leading strategic organisation change initiatives and delivering effective communications. Experience in leading and managing multi-functional departments. Excellent organisational skills with an ability to manage multiple tasks and personnel, while effectively and efficiently managing their output and values-aligned behaviours. Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure in a dynamic environment. Experience in identifying, addressing, and resolving behavioural challenges within a team to uphold company values. Demonstrated success in coaching and guiding individuals to align their behaviours with organisational values and goals. About the Company: Atlas Iron is an Australian owned Iron Ore company, mining and exporting direct shipping ore from its Mount Webber, Sanjiv Ridge, and Miralga Creek mining operations in Western Australia's Pilbara Region. We are also expanding with our new mine McPhee Creek becoming operational in 2025.
