Role Attendance requirement for this position is 5 days per week, start and end times to be negotiated with the principal (between 8am - 6pm), including 3 recall days as negotiated with the principal.
Range 4 is distinguished by broader management responsibility, particularly in the areas of finance, human resource and other support functions. Range 4 is responsible for managing a range of functions under a wide range of conditions, subject to the size and complexity of school operations.
Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction minimal. Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school. Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers.
Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Responsibilities General Administration and Delivery of School Services Liaise with and provide information to parents, staff and students about school administration procedures and policy. Manage the day to day staffing requirements of the OSHC program. Ensure the provision of a range of administrative support functions for the Principal and leadership team and provide documentation as necessary for the school community. Provide administrative support for the OSHC program for both internal staff and external service providers as required. Manage the processing of student enrolments, medical details and incidents for the OSHC program. Manage continuous improvement for a specific school program whilst implementing all licensing regulations and quality frameworks. Finance Support the preparation of the annual budget for a particular program and manage a program budget with regard to revenue and expenditure targets. Generate and provide regular financial reports and statements that contribute to the financial decision making of the school. Prepare funding submissions and administer government grants in accordance with service policies and procedures. Negotiate and manage straightforward contracts and service agreements with external providers. Develop and implement strategies to ensure efficient use of school resources including maintenance and ordering for a specific program. Interpret and analyse attendance and financial data to report on the operational efficiency, making recommendations for improvement where appropriate for a specific school program. Human Resources Provide leadership, training and professional development for staff. Manage recruitment and induction procedures ensuring all policy and legal requirements are met. Provide advice and assist in the development of support structures and work practices that ensure appropriate occupational health and safety standards are maintained. Foster a team culture that is collaborative, reflective and positive by distributing leadership and responsibility amongst a team. Location Profile Westgarth Primary School is located in the inner-city suburb of Northcote approximately eight kilometres north of the city. The school was founded in 1924 and is located on two adjacent sites. The Prep/1/2 classes and administration centre are located at the Brooke Street site and the 3-6 classes and specialist facilities are located on both sites.
Buildings include refurbished open planned learning spaces, studio learning spaces, modular five portables, a kitchen garden centre and STEM centre. A new full-sized gymnasium and second storey classroom building with an under croft for undercover play, currently under construction and due to be completed early in 2025. School grounds include a kitchen garden, playgrounds at both sites, inclusive playground on the Brooke St site and areas for passive play and seating.

OSHC Service Profile Westgarth Primary Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) commenced in 1988 and is operated by School Council. We offer safe, enjoyable childcare for school age children who attend Westgarth Primary School and are enrolled in the OSHC service. We provide an education and leisure program that supports children's social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs.
Westgarth Primary OSHC runs from the Clarke Street site and is licensed for 180 children. The service is a Commonwealth approved, not-for-profit service which operates in accordance with The Education & Care Services National Regulations 2011.
The service was last rated Meeting Quality Standards by the Department of Education in 2022.
Westgarth OSHC pride ourselves on our rich, immersive program that is responsive to the children's needs and interests. Each morning and afternoon the children have access to craft activities and organised games, as well as self-directed play opportunities. We have a variety of clubs on offer each afternoon, that rotate from term to term.
