Role Highlights: In this senior role, you will oversee all aspects of the company’s payroll operations, ensuring that over 1,600 employees are paid accurately and on time. You will lead a team of payroll officers, manage complex payroll systems, and ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements. A key aspect of the role will be driving a transition to a new payroll system, Dayforce, while fostering a high-performance, end-to-end payroll function. Role Overview As Payroll Manager, you will report to the Senior Manager – Finance and Payroll and work closely with senior stakeholders. You’ll lead the payroll team, mentor staff, and be responsible for ensuring payroll compliance and the accuracy of payments across multiple pay cycles and employing entities. Your leadership will be critical in creating an efficient, streamlined payroll function while implementing process improvements and managing system upgrades. Responsibilities • Oversee all payroll processing, including 50 pay runs per month (weekly, fortnightly, and monthly). • Manage the transition from Chris21 to Dayforce, ensuring smooth system implementation and testing. • Lead the payroll team, providing coaching and guidance to ensure accuracy and compliance. • Ensure timely and accurate processing of wages, deductions, superannuation, leave entitlements, and tax. • Ensure compliance with relevant industrial agreements (EAs and awards) and legislation. • Provide critical payroll governance, ensuring internal controls and regulatory requirements are met. • Continuously assess processes and implement improvements to increase efficiency and reduce administrative burdens. • Provide key reports on payroll data, including leave liabilities, accruals, redundancy calculations, and more. • Support internal stakeholders, including Finance, People & Culture, and Business Managers, with payroll-related queries. • Mentor and develop the payroll team, fostering a high-performance culture and identifying training needs. • Manage external payroll contractors and work to reduce reliance on third-party services over time. • Ensure full payroll system integration with the company’s financial accounting practices. Candidate Profile As an ideal candidate, you will have: • Extensive experience leading payroll teams, ideally in a complex, multi-entity environment. • Strong technical payroll knowledge, including an understanding of Enterprise Agreements, awards, and payroll legislation. • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing change, particularly with system implementations (e.g., transitioning from Chris21 to Dayforce). • A continuous improvement mindset, with experience identifying inefficiencies and driving process improvements. • Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise with senior stakeholders across various departments. • Experience working in large organisations with a complex payroll environment, preferably in the construction or industrial sector. • High-level analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy. • Exposure to payroll systems like Chris21 and Dayforce is highly advantageous. • Payroll qualifications are desirable, alongside finance qualifications to help transition into this role.
