This newly recruited group of educators are recognised both internationally and within the university for their expertise in educational delivery and will support an uplift in the teaching capability and student experience at the University of Sydney. The Associate Professor/Professor in Software Engineering (Education Focused) dedicates the majority of their contribution to teaching and teaching-related activities (up to 70%), with a minimum of 20% research and 10% governance, service, and engagement. Additionally, you will mentor junior academics, providing advice on teaching methodologies, education research approaches, publications, and career advancement. You will exhibit educational leadership, guiding the School, Faculty and University in strategic planning, setting educational goals, and shaping educational policies and initiatives. Furthermore, you will lead industry collaboration and outreach activities, establishing partnerships for internship opportunities, organising industry panels to review curricula, and conducting outreach to amplify the impact of our software engineering program. As a key member of the School, you will oversee the organisation and delivery of courses within the software engineering program, working closely with fellow academics and addressing student consultations. An important focus will be leading curriculum review and improvement, continuously leveraging student feedback to enhance instructional materials. You will play a pivotal role in course design and development, proposing and crafting new courses that meet our educational objectives, such as Requirements Analysis, Software Process and Quality, Programming and Trustworthy AI Software Systems, among others. Designed for a dynamic and innovative educator, the Associate Professor/Professor in Software Engineering (Education Focused) will deliver effective teaching across a broad spectrum of software engineering courses, including but not limited to Software Development, Machine Learning, Computer Systems, and Networks. A commitment to research and scholarship in educational methodologies, technology, and pedagogical approaches within software engineering will be fundamental. The role demands active engagement with educational technology, upholding academic integrity, and contributing to educational committees. About you We are looking for an outstanding educator in the field of software engineering to provide educational leadership within the School. Applicants should possess the following qualifications and attributes, and include a response to each of the Selection Criteria as part of their application: A completed PhD in Software Engineering or a related area Deep knowledge of software engineering including but not limited to software development, machine learning, computer systems, and networks History of a strong commitment to research and scholarship in educational methodologies, technology, and pedagogical approaches within software engineering Proven international standing for academic excellence demonstrated through original, innovative and distinguished contributions to scholarship and research A strong dedication to teaching excellence, with a notable track record for enhancing student outcomes and pioneering educational innovations An established network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders with the ability to integrate these relationships to assist in curriculum development and student learning Demonstrated community service with significant contribution to governance and collegial life within the university, including undertaking significant administrative and/or committee positions. Term and remuneration The successful candidate will be offered a continuing position on a full-time basis and will be offered a competitive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.
