St Laurence's College is a Catholic School for boys in the Edmund Rice Tradition with an enrolment of over 2000 boys from Years 5-12. Applications are invited for the following casual position of Caretaker Urban Farm, commencing ASAP. The farm is a 500sqm inner-city site located on the College grounds in South Brisbane.The Caretaker is directly responsible to the Head of Faculty - Humanities to ensure support to the College's teaching and learning activities; the undertaking of ongoing maintenance operations; and to contribute to co-curricular project-based learning within the Urban Farm. The role involves 24 hours distributed over a week including one visit on the weekend. (Must be able to work outside normal working hours and on public holidays if required, plus the ability to inspect after a severe weather event).Some of the qualifications/experience required is as follows:Relevant and recent experience working in horticultural and sustainability fieldsA genuine interest in sustainability education and inner-city urban farmingSubstantial knowledge, qualifications and/or practical experience of all/any of the following: horticulture, permaculture, aquaponics, hydroponics, worm farming, poultry keeping, native bee-keeping, composting, plant nursery, irrigation systemsAn understanding of Work Health and Safety legislation and guidelines is requiredHold a current Blue Card (or be eligible to apply for a Suitability Card for working with children)Hold a current Drivers Licence.The full Position Description and electronic application are accessible on the College website www.slc.qld.edu.au under Employment.
