Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation (AHAC) is a multi-disciplinary organisation which provides primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of Tennant Creek and the surrounding Barkly region, dedicated to ‘Closing the Gap’ in Aboriginal health within remote Australia.

About the Role
The Work Health and Safety Advisor position involves collaborating with various Sections to develop, implement, and monitor health and safety programs, policies, and procedures. Close collaboration with the Continuous Quality Improvement Facilitator is required. The Advisor will conduct risk assessments, provide expert guidance on safety regulations, and contribute to the overall well-being of all Anyinginyi Health Employees. This role will report through the Senior P&C Advisor to the Executive Manager of People & Capability and require networking with relevant stakeholders.
More specifically, some of your duties will include (but will not be limited to):
* Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives.
* Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and recommend and implement preventive measures to mitigate risks.
* Provide expert advice and guidance to management and staff on health and safety matters, promoting a proactive safety culture throughout the organisation.
* Staying aware of relevant occupational health and safety regulations, updating policies accordingly to ensure compliance with legal standards.
* Collaborate with various departments to deliver targeted health and safety training programs, fostering awareness and competence among employees.
* Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, and compile reports with recommendations for corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
* Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of health and safety initiatives, adjusting strategies as needed to achieve continuous improvement
* Mentor both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal staff at all levels of the organisation and positions to build their capability.
About you
To be considered for this position, you must be able to demonstrate your respect for Aboriginal culture and cultural diversity. You must possess strong analytical and assessment skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and have experience developing and delivering relevant WHS training programs. You must have a commitment to ongoing evaluation, and to up-skilling other staff.
Essential Skills and Experience
* Cert IV (or higher) in Work Health and Safety (or similar)
* Demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to the cultural context of Aboriginal health and ability to tailor health and safety initiatives to meet the unique needs of Aboriginal health
* At least two years of experience as a WHS Advisor/Officer or similar role
* Indepth knowledge of WHS safety principals, regulations, practices and programs
* Strong skills in risk assessment, analysis, and knowledge of compliance requirements
* Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including Aboriginal health facility personnel, to foster a positive safety culture
Desirable Skills and Experience
* Cert IV in Training & Assessment
* Other risk related qualifications
* Experience working in the Barkly region
