1. 2x ongoing position (part-time applications considered)
2. Salary range: $98,902 - $123,624 (pro rata) plus super plus salary packaging
3. Up to $15,900 in salary packaging and hybrid WFH & office model
About the role:
Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) is expanding its services in the Ovens Murray (Wodonga) region and is looking to establish a dedicated team to provide high-quality legal aid services across North-East Victoria. We are seeking two experienced Senior Lawyers to join our new office in Wodonga, focusing on criminal law, family violence, child protection, and youth crime.
4. Senior Lawyer – Criminal Law & Family Violence: Provide expert legal advice and representation in complex criminal law and family violence matters. You'll play an important role in court advocacy, oversee and mentor staff, and contribute to community legal education and law reform initiatives.
5. Senior Lawyer – Youth Services (Child Protection and Youth Crime): Deliver high-quality legal services in child protection, intervention orders, and youth crime cases, primarily in the Children's Court of Victoria. Your role will include court appearances, staff supervision, and leading community education and law reform efforts.
This role is based at our Wodonga office on Wiradjuri Country.
About you:
As our ideal candidates, you will possess:
6. A valid Australian practising certificate which entitles you to practise in Victoria as a government legal practitioner (mandatory).
7. Significant experience in criminal law, family violence, child protection, or youth crime, depending on the role.
8. Understanding of relevant laws and procedures, such as the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005, and the ability to apply this knowledge in complex cases.
9. Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor, and develop junior lawyers fostering a supportive and collaborative team environment.
10. High-level interpersonal skills for effective communication with clients, staff, and stakeholders.
11. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing a substantial caseload effectively.
