Reporting directly to the CEO, the Senior Finance Officer is responsible for managing and maintaining the organisation’s financial operations and systems. This is a hands-on position, working closely with the CEO, BAS Agent, and external auditors to ensure efficient financial processes and reporting. You will be instrumental in grant management, budget development, policy compliance, and supporting governance structures such as the Board and Finance Committee.Key Responsibilities:Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and proper authorisationPerform monthly bank reconciliations across all accounts, including term deposits and petty cashMaintain the general ledger, including allocations across multiple programs and funding streamsPrepare and process Centrepay rent contributions and reconcile related accountsPrepare accurate monthly financial reports, including grant acquittals and variance analysisSupport the CEO in the development and monitoring of the annual budgetPrepare reports and financial statements for Board and Finance Committee meetingsMaintain the fixed asset register and depreciation schedulesEnsure ongoing integrity of financial systems, including Xero and CalxaReview and update finance policies and procedures for CEO and Board approvalEnsure compliance with relevant awards and entitlementsAct as Secretary of the Finance and Audit Committee (ex-officio)Attend Board meetings when required and contribute financial insight to decision-makingMaintain accurate records for insurance renewals and claims, including public liability, workers compensation, and cyber security policiesEssential CriteriaTertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related fieldMinimum of five years' experience in a finance role, preferably within the not-for-profit or community sectorDemonstrated experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and end-of-year processesSound understanding of financial systems and regulatory complianceHigh-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial software (e.g. Xero, Calxa)High attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to manage competing prioritiesStrong understanding of confidentiality, ethics, and financial governanceExcellent communication skills and ability to work independentlyCurrent full driver’s licenceCurrent and valid Working with Vulnerable People Registration (ACT)Desirable CriteriaExperience working in a feminist, trauma-informed, or community-based organisationKnowledge of community services funding models and grant acquittalsExperience in payroll processing and HR documentationAbility to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholdersLived experience or demonstrated commitment to working with diverse communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgroundsThis is a meaningful opportunity to contribute your financial expertise to an organisation that exists to support women and children escaping domestic and family violence.
