(pro-rata) + 17% superannuationAbout the opportunityApplications are invited for the appointment of a Postdoctoral Researcher in Quantum Information Theory at the Quantum Science group, School of Physics.
The theory group is led by Professor Stephen Bartlett and Professor Andrew Doherty.We require a postdoctoral theorist to undertake research in quantum information theory.
Your key responsibilities will be to:demonstrate research excellence and publish original researchdevelop research collaborations within our theory group and with other universities and industryparticipate in research student supervision at the undergraduate and postgraduate leveldevelop your profile through conferences and seminarscontribute to a positive, supportive and inclusive research environment within the Quantum Science Research Group.The Quantum Science group supports a flexible working environment; this opportunity is available as either a full-time or part-time position.The School of Physics at the University of Sydney is the leading Physics department in the country, with outstanding staff and students undertaking world-leading teaching and research.

As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Quantum Information Theory who has:a PhD in Physics or a related discipline (or near completion)a strong background in quantum information theory or related areasthe skill to clearly express ideas and communicate within a team environmentthe ability to work independently on problems, and motivate junior members of the teama capability to see the bigger picture, and have vision for the future development of the projecta demonstrated capacity to conduct theoretical research in quantum information theory.Desirable criteria include:demonstrated capacity to co-supervise research students on projects in this area, with assistance and mentoring from senior academic stafffamiliarity with the theoretical methods of quantum error correction, and the theory of fault-tolerant quantum computingbackground in quantum information theory as applied to quantum many body systems and spin lattices.Pre-employment checksYour employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University.
