Being a Railcar Driver means that you will be required to work shift work and weekend work as required, with irregular start and finish times. You may also be temporarily required to work at various locations other than where assigned.
This is a pool recruitment process where successful applicants will be placed in the pool for 24 months. Initially, this selection process will be used to fill the current Railcar Driver Trainee vacancies, but it may also be used to appoint to similar positions within the agency over the next 24 months, on either a permanent or fixed-term basis, with the possibility of extension or permanency. Those appointed to the Railcar Driver Trainee roles will undertake a comprehensive 26-week training program, and upon successful completion of this training and a 3-month probationary period your permanent appointment to the position will be confirmed.
To be eligible to work permanently at the PTA you must be either an Australian Citizen, have Permanent Residency status or hold a current visa with permanent working rights in Australia.
Please Note: As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a series of assessments, before attending an Assessment Centre. These assessments are designed to ensure candidates meet the necessary competencies for the role. Further details will be provided to those who advance in the recruitment process.
Train driver assessment results are valid for 24 months. If unsuccessful, candidates are eligible to reapply after this period.

We are looking for individuals who can learn the operational aspects of train operations and troubleshooting. Please share with us in your cover letter your experience with any technical or mechanical tasks you have overcome.
