About the Team
NICM Health Research Institute (NICM) was established to provide leadership and support for strategically directed research into integrative medicine, to promote the translation of evidence into clinical practice and develop relevant policy to benefit the health of all Australians. NICM is an international leader in integrative medicine research, especially traditional Chinese medicine. The Institute’s programs encompass all aspects of the research agenda in the field of integrative medicine, from pure basic research in the laboratory; to clinical trials tailored to assessing the efficacy of medicines already in use; to the translation of research evidence into clinical practice and community use.
About the Role
The NICM Health Research Institute is seeking an experienced professional to fill the role of Technical Support Officer Cognitive Neuroscience. As the Technical Support Officer, Cognitive Neuroscience, you will be primarily responsible for the daily management of the Hearts, Brains & Minds Laboratories (NICM Clinical Laboratories), but will also support research activities across the NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow’s research program.
This position will play a key role in undertaking technical support for research activities. This includes, but is not limited to, setting up studies including preparing experiments and equipment, collecting data, and conferring safety guidance and training to staff and students. They ensure the equipment and the facilities within their scope are adequately used and maintained. The NICM Clinical Laboratories are located at Westmead and the position will work both independently and in close collaboration with other members of these clinical laboratories and the NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow’s team.
This is a full-time, fixed-term positionbased at Westerns Westmead Campus, although travel to other campuses of the University may be required.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role you will require the following skills and experience:
6. Demonstrated experience in the acquisition and processing of psychophysiological data in, particularly EEG, autonomics, and/or TMS, and in the use and maintenance of other similar equipment and instrumentation specific to a cognitive neuroscience laboratory.
7. Demonstrated knowledge of biosafety and human research ethics.
8. Demonstrated experience in in the maintenance of a cognitive neuroscience laboratory and laboratory documentation such as Standard Operating Procedures.
9. You will have a high level of organisational skills with the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines, and undertake multiple tasks and excellent oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to establish professional working relationships with external agencies, senior staff, and staff at all levels.
10. You will be analytical, evaluative, and good at problem-solving, with the ability to manage conflicting priorities.
