Your New Organisation: A Federal Government DepartmentYour New Role: Senior Payroll OfficerLocation: Canberra / BrisbaneAbout the Role:The Senior Officer Payroll is responsible for delivering payroll services and applying specialized knowledge of employment conditions and strong analytical skills to achieve high-quality outcomes.Key Responsibilities:Deliver the full end-to-end fortnightly payroll process and manage related payroll activities.Oversee complex payroll calculations for terminations, redundancies, entitlements, and deductions, ensuring compliance documentation is completed accurately.Provide advice to the agency managers and employees on remuneration, benefits, employment conditions, and HR-related matters through precise interpretation of the Enterprise Agreement, employment contracts, and HR policies and procedures.Prepare accurate and timely reports, including ad hoc, fortnightly, end-of-month, end-of-quarter, and end-of-year reports.Conduct complex payroll investigations related to conditions of service and take necessary actions using the payroll system.Apply process improvement methodologies to all payroll-related activities, reviewing the efficiency and effectiveness of the payroll system.Create and maintain accurate electronic documentation of payroll processes.Mentor and transfer payroll skills to other members of the Human Resources team, where appropriate.Provide high-level customer service and maintain professional, constructive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.Handle and manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.Undertake special projects and research as required.Commit to the agency's Code of Conduct and Values.Key Relationships:The Position reports to the HR Business Partner.You will closely work with:The leadership teamAll agency's employeesHR teamAgency's Finance and Information Technology Services teamsPayroll contacts outside the AgencyExternal vendors including Aurion, Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation, Australian Taxation Office, Fairwork OmbudsmanEssential Criteria:Qualifications, or progress towards qualifications, in Human Resource Management/Payroll, (or a related discipline).Demonstrated experience working in payroll with excellent payroll management skills.Extensive experience using payroll systems (Aurion desirable).In-depth knowledge of payroll and other relevant legislation.Capability to interpret and apply policy in alignment with the Enterprise Agreement.Well-developed communication skills, both verbal and written.Highly developed organisational skills including the ability to prioritise to achieve deadlines.What's in for you:9 weeks labor hire contract.A fantastic opportunity to advance your career in the APS sector.To be considered for the role click the 'apply' button or for more information about this and other opportunities please contact Divya Arora on + or email and quote the above job reference number.Paxus values diversity and welcomes applications from Indigenous Australians, people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds and people living with a disability.
