About the Tasmanian State Service
The Tasmanian State Service (TSS) is the largest employer in Tasmania, with over 28,000 employees providing services to the Tasmanian community at all levels.
The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital in Tasmania, providing all general and specialty medical and surgical services as well as paediatrics, obstetrics, and psychiatry. It is also the state’s tertiary trauma centre.
The Emergency Department (ED) provides a tertiary level service for people with illness or injury 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, caring for over 75,000 patients annually with an admission rate of more than 35% and a paediatric case load of 20%.
The RHH Emergency Department has a co-located Emergency Medical Unit (EMU), a short stay ward for patients requiring a brief hospital stay (generally less than 24 hours) with 24 short-stay beds operating 24/7.
The Role:
The Emergency Department Nurse Unit Manager is closely supported by a leadership team to lead and manage the coordination of overall patient care and is responsible for managing the allocated human, material, and financial resources for service delivery within the ED.
You will need:
o Comprehensive knowledge of and experience in contemporary nursing management practice, including clinical governance, clinical risk management, evidence-based practice, research, clinical standards, ethics, and legislation.
o Capability to promote a shared vision and purpose, positively influencing others (internally and externally) to ensure optimal client outcomes and build a culture of success, commitment, and active contribution by all staff within the practice area.
o Capability to establish and maintain relationships and useful partnerships with people at all levels and disciplines across the business unit and group.

Details of appointment:
Fixed term full-time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing in August 2025 for approximately twelve (12) months. *Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full-time, part-time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $130,203 to $136,295 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
o Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
o Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type.
