We sit on the legal panels of three of Australia’s top four general insurers, as well as a number of other local and international insurers.The primary focus of this role will be defending claims against professionals including those in the construction industry, financial services and legal sector as well as defending claims in the health and medical sector (medical malpractice).You will be responsible for and have carriage of your own files, with appropriate supervision from our supportive and industry leading partners.Your responsibilities will include:Client interaction and strategy;Working with a small team of lawyers (for those at Senior Associate level, this will include supervising junior members of the team);Reviewing documents and preparing evidence;Drafting correspondence to the Court and third parties;Conferencing with witnesses and preparing witness statements;Preparing briefs for counsel;Drafting Court documents and attendance at Court;Drafting client advices;Drafting letters of instruction to experts.About youYou will ideally have the following skills and experience:A minimum of 3 years of post-admission experience in general insurance law;Experience in professional indemnity / financial lines matters;Experience in the day-to-day management of files and in running matters through court proceedings;A team player, with a ‘can do’ attitude, and a strong interest in defendant insurance law;Excellent technical, analytical and drafting skills with a keen attention to detail;Excellent verbal and written communication skills;The ability to organise and prioritise effectively;For more senior candidates, experience supervising and mentoring junior lawyers.About usHall & Wilcox is a leading independent Australian law firm.
