Insight Global Electrical Design Engineer in Southport, North Carolina
Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Design Engineer SME-Nuclear to join one of our large energy companies. The successful candidate will perform engineering work for electrical and Instrumentation & Control (I&C) projects, including digital and software-focused items. This role requires current qualification at a nuclear utility as a Modification Engineer under an INPO Accredited Program and knowledge of Nuclear Asset Suite (NAS) for design and work order reviews.
Core Responsibilities:
1. Develop the scope, technical basis, installation, and testing requirements for engineering design changes, including AC/DC power systems, large AC motors, transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, voltage regulators, and breakers.
2. Research engineering and design issues, evaluate alternatives, and present recommendations to resolve issues.
3. Provide ongoing support for assigned engineering design changes through work order reviews, corrective action program assignments, and field installation support activities.
4. Develop or revise design specifications or technical requirement documents to support engineering design changes.
5. Develop or revise complex engineering calculations impacted by engineering design changes.
6. Develop safety screens and evaluations that support engineering design changes.
7. Revise site design basis documents, design drawings, and regulatory documents impacted by engineering design changes.
Skills and Requirements:
1. Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent BS degree with relevant work experience.
2. 15+ years of engineering experience in the nuclear industry with experience in Electrical/I&C Design Modification preparation.
3. Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access to a nuclear facility (General Employee Training, Radiation Worker Training, Security Clearance checks, and subject to the site's Fitness for Duty Program).
4. Strong oral and written communication skills within a professional environment.
5. Skilled in researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations.
6. Must be able to work in a team environment. Registration/Licensure as a Professional Engineer.
7. Electrical/I&C/Digital engineering experience at Brunswick Nuclear Plant.
8. Experience in the 10CFR50.59 with respect to designing modifications to a nuclear facility.
9. Working level knowledge of ETAP software program.
10. Working level knowledge of nuclear industry cyber security control practices.
11. Experience with nuclear industry-standard design processes.
