We are seeking an enthusiastic Laboratory Assistant to join our welcoming College community.Duties Prepare experimental equipment and chemicals related to task methodology and work practices of practical lessons Trial experiments and determine their suitability Carry out construction and maintenance of equipment Prepare standard solutions and chemicals of known concentrations. Tutor student-teachers in correct use of laboratory equipment and its application Assist graduate teachers unfamiliar with laboratory techniques and assist teachers with new equipment Encourage and stimulate students with extra-curricular activities and opportunities Clean, store and maintain equipment after use Dispose of hazardous chemical and biological wastes in accordance with Workplace Health and Safety practices Prepare and provide Material safety Data Sheets and Risk Assessments Label chemicals in compliance with Workplace Health and safety regulations Store chemicals safely Monitor laboratory maintenance and follow through on necessary maintenance Monitor and maintain stocks of chemicals, equipment and biological specimens in compliance with Work Place Health and Safety Regulations Assist the Science Coordinator with the purchase of new equipment, and the maintenance of electronic equipment, microscopes, etc Maintain a current list of stockiest and catalogues and discuss with sales representatives the merits and costs of their supplies Conduct periodic audits of equipment and chemicals in stock Assist teachers in class with practical work when requested Provide resource material relative to current text chapters and provide student copies where necessary.
