The Role
A permanent opportunity has become available for a Fitter/Armourer to join our team on the Defence Maintenance Contract (DMC) at the Lavarack Barracks, Townsville.
Our mechanical crew on the workshop floor are responsible for all trade related tasks associated with the maintenance and repair of Defence vehicles, plant, and equipment.
What you will be doing
1. Perform inspections and repairs to Defence’s vast fleet of weapon systems (From small arms personal weapons up to artillery and armoured vehicle weapon platforms – M1A1 Abrams Tanks, M113AS4 Armoured Personnel Carriers)
2. Undertake major overhauls and authorised modifications to plant and associated general support equipment (Bridge units, chainsaws, paving breakers etc)
3. Ensure that technical procedures and inspection/test plans are performed in accordance with QA requirements.
4. Maintain maintenance records associated with equipment servicing, repairs and modifications. Undertake plant audits and inspections where required
5. Determine parts and materials requirements for acquisition in relation to plant and equipment servicing, maintenance and repairs
6. Certify plant and equipment as serviceable and fit for purpose, within the scope of trade qualifications
About you
Our ideal candidate will have:
7. Possess a recognised Trade Certificate III in Mechanical Engineering (Fitting) or equivalent
8. Defence recognised maintenance qualifications in the repairs to small arms and weapon systems highly desirable
9. Ability to pass high level security clearances essential (if these security clearances have not been obtained previously). This is for gaining access to Defence weapon storage facilities and Defence weapon-based maintenance courses
10. Open and clear communication within a team environment
You must be an Australian citizen and be eligible to hold a Defence Security Clearance.
