THE KEY DUTIES OF THE POSITION - WHAT WILL YOU DO? – DUTY STATEMENT In accordance with the APS 6 work level standards, and reporting to the Head of Creative Studio, you will have the following key responsibilities: Exhibition design, production and project management for temporary exhibitions, permanent collection, brand and strategic initiatives ensuring high quality design outcomes and on time and on budget delivery. Ensure effective procurement and management of external contractors and consultants, undertaking tasks associated with exhibition design and production. With the Exhibition Design and Workshop Manager, support and mentor a multi-disciplined team of exhibition designers (2), supporting the capabilities and growth of the team. Participate as an active and collaborative member of Exhibition Project teams, contributing to project planning and providing updates and advice in relation to exhibition design. Contribute to creative direction and development of design at the National Gallery, working with the Exhibition Design and Workshop Manager and Head of Creative Studio on planning, strategy, ideation and process improvements. Supervise, liaise and negotiate with external contractors, consultants, exhibiting artists, designers and staff to ensure exhibitions program design requirements are met. Coordinate logistics and maintain the record management of exhibition design furniture, in line with National Gallery procedures for collection and records management. Responsibly manage risk and resources, including managing project budgets, negotiating for resources and monitoring expenditure.

The National Gallery is seeking a senior exhibition designer with strong 3D design, production and project management experience. Working in the Creative Studio team, the role provides exhibition design and project management support for temporary exhibitions, collection displays, touring exhibitions and other brand and strategic initiatives. You will work with internal teams including curatorial, exhibitions and marketing and externally with artists, contractors and suppliers to deliver high quality project outcomes. This role contributes to departmental management of exhibition furniture including logistics and record keeping as well as procurement of design related services.
The Creative Studio team is part of the Marketing, Communications and Visitor Experience portfolio who work to attract and engage diverse audiences, grow earned revenue to support the Gallery’s work, position the brand, and create inspiring and memorable experiences for everyone who visits.
This Senior Exhibition Designer reports to the Exhibition Design and Workshop Manager. This position is an ongoing full-time position.
