About the Business Unit:
The Barwon Southwest Prison Precinct incorporates four custodial facilities located 6km north-west of Lara, 20km from the centre of Geelong and about 70km from Melbourne. The four custodial facilities consist of two maximum security prisons being HM Prison Barwon and Western Plains Correctional Centre and medium security prison Marngoneet Correctional Centre and Karreenga Annex. The BSW Prison Services Team provides both operational and administrative services to HMP Barwon, Marngoneet Correctional Centre and the Karreenga Annex.
About the Role:
The Administration Officer is called the Justice Officer, Prison Services and this is a Casual position. This is an entry-level position to a career in Prison Services within the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS).
The Justice Officer, Prison Services - Casual, may be required to provide a range of functions across the Prisons Precinct including, but not limited to, processing of prisoner monies, operation of the prisoner shop, ordering stock and stock management, facilitating goods inwards and outwards, general administrative tasks handling Prison and Prisoner documentation, maintaining prisoner property stock levels, safekeeping of prisoner's stored property and processing prisoner property requests.
Please note, this position will require direct prisoner contact and may involve occasional weekend and public holiday work, remunerated in accordance with the applicable provision of the VPS Determination.
Some of your duties will include:
* Contributing to the efficiency of the administrative function through actively contributing to business improvement initiatives
* Under supervision, providing quality financial and procurement services, in accordance with the Financial Management Act 1994, other government regulations and guidelines and local operating procedures
* Performing accounts functions overseeing the administration of prisoner private monies in addition to accounts payables, receivables, reconciliation, data entry, and reporting.

About You:

* Well-developed computer skills
* Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, guidelines and regulations
* Proficient in the use of software and standard office equipment
* Experience and/or understanding of working within a correctional environment or ability to learn.

* No formal qualifications are required.
* Forklift licence preferred but not essential.
