Burgmann Anglican School is an Early Childhood to Year 12 School with campuses located at Gungahlin and Forde.
The school prides itself on its innovative and creative approach to curriculum and education and its strong sense of community and pastoral care of the students and their families and the staff of the school. The school has a strong link with the Gungahlin Anglican Church which shares facilities and resources with the school.
Line Management
This position is responsible in the first instance to the Leader of Inclusion in the Sub School, the Head of School and ultimately the Principal.
Duties
Under the direction of the Leader of Inclusion and classroom/enrichment teachers:
Support children requiring adjustments to participate in their learning and school life
Supporting students to access learning in their nominated classrooms ensuring inclusion. For targeted students implement planned support for the development of life skills such as organisation, self-advocacy, social skills, group work, independent learning skills, conflict resolution. For targeted students implement planned support regarding their learning as per personalised plan and teacher direction. This could include but not limited to comprehension of tasks, completion of tasks, submission of task, organisation of class materials. Support targeted students with their emotional regulation and decision-making processes including students with complex behavioural needs. Implement behaviour supports and accompany targeted student who need to leave the classroom during lessons (this may include for emotional regulation, medical conditions etc) Support students to access the playground during break times as required (this may include for emotional regulation, medical conditions etc), supporting inclusion with peers. Support and encourage student’s participation in the life of school, including assembly, chapel, sports carnivals and other events Assist students to access assessment as outlined in their personalised plan (through supports such as reading, scribing, clarification, provision of extra time) Travel on buses and/or walk with students to attend excursions at off campus locations during school hours up to and including camps as directed by the Principal. Implement teacher selected resources that are authentic, relevant, age and ability appropriate to support learning.
Contribute to professional dialogue regarding individual student progress
Communicate effectively with teachers, Leader of Inclusion and other key staff to support for students learning and wellbeing provide feedback to class teachers, Enrichment teacher, and Leader of Inclusion on progress, successful strategies and adjustments.
Keep records of adjustments of learning and participation
Establish and maintain contemporaneous records on students as directed.
Assist with personal care
Assist with personal care as per the students’ medical, toileting, feeding/eating plan (this may include, but is not limited to, lifting equipment, re-dressing a student, assistance with toileting and hygiene) Manage known chronic medical conditions, including diabetes and epilepsy Support with mobility including assistance with walking, use of therapeutic devices and use of a wheelchair
Support Students Transition
Support targeted students in their transition between activities, break times, lessons, whole school activities, from sub school to sub school and to post school options.
Other duties as directed
Working to support identified students in other sub-schools on a short- or long-term basis may be required Redeployment to other areas (eg. admin, another sub schools) if required when students requiring support are absent or there is a change in need.
Selection Criteria
A relevant qualification (Cert 4) and/or experience in working in learning support and/or teacher’s aide roles, and a strong understanding of how to support teaching and learning. Excellent written and oral communication skills and collaboration skills Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a warm, positive, safe and encouraging rapport with students, teachers and other school staff Ability and willingness to support the development of a student’s life skills and academic skills within a team environment Ability and willingness to physically assist with mobility and personal care if required Ability to keep accurate records Demonstrate strong IT skills including classroom technologies and web-based learning support systems Current Work with Vulnerable People Card
Salary, Terms and Conditions
The successful applicant will be employed under the Independent Schools NSW/ACT Standards Model (Support & Operational Staff) Multi Enterprise Agreement 2021.
