Selection Criteria
SC1 A sensitivity to and ability to work with children and young adults with an intellectual disability.
SC2 High level interpersonal skills to liaise with staff across two campuses and with members of the school community and external contractor staff.
SC3 Appreciation for the uniqueness of the school buildings and grounds and demonstrated ability to utilise personal, formal and informal skills, experience and knowledge to maintain the basic fabric of the buildings and grounds across the school.
SC4 An enthusiastic work ethic and the capacity to work independently with initiative and within a budget.
SC5 An understanding of the DEECD School Maintenance Service processes and the current OHS and WorkSafe procedures.
Role
Successful applicant may be required to work at either the Sunbury Campus (Primary) or the Bullengarook Campus (Secondary).
This role will be a 52/52 position with 4 weeks of annual leave a year.
* Perform minor repairs as directed by the Operations/Facilities Manager & Principal.
* Opportunity to attend meetings as part of the Facilities & Maintenance team.
* Painting of internal classrooms as required.
* Repair of furniture and equipment e.g. table tops, table legs, castors.
* Identify and report the need for repairs.
* Undertake general maintenance and minor repairs.
* Keep storage facilities clean, tidy and safe, including signage for OHS risks.
* General setting up and packing away after major events.
* Demonstrate the ability to work independently and also with minimum supervision within a team environment.
* A full Drivers Licence is required.
* Assist with moving furniture & equipment.
* Other duties as directed by the Operations/Facilities Manager & Principal.
* 22 seater license or willingness to undertake.
Responsibilities
The Maintenance/Handyman role will be responsible for the overall physical maintenance requirements of the school. The role will require the incumbent to identify and rectify short term needs and respond to occupational health and safety issues as they emerge to ensure the school is a safe workplace at all times.
The role of Maintenance/Handyman will be an evolving one that will involve the maintenance of the school, liaising with trades personnel as required, and responding to identified occupational health and safety needs.
The Maintenance/Handyman will be accountable to the Operations/Facilities Manager & Principal and will work collaboratively with the school administration team. The Maintenance/Handyman will work to a clear set of accountabilities around DET compliance accountabilities and annual inspections and in response to School Council direction.
