About the Medicare Mental Health Centre Program:
Our Medicare Mental Health Centres, funded through the Darling Downs and West Moreton PHN, were established in late 2023 to provide welcoming, low-stigma access to mental health services. We offer soft entry points for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis or significant distress, with support available at any level.
About the role:
Open Minds is seeking a passionate Cultural Capability and Inclusion Project Officer for a 12-month opportunity to lead cultural safety initiatives within our Medicare Mental Health Centre in Ipswich. This role will embed cultural safety by developing and implementing strategies to guide the team in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers, driving cultural competence and improving outcomes across our services.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and implement a culturally sensitive framework to align services with the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers.
* Mentor and guide staff to enhance cultural competence and foster an inclusive work environment.
* Implement culturally safe policies that reflect the values and needs of Indigenous communities.
* Build and strengthen partnerships with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to improve consumer wellbeing.
* Identify challenges and provide actionable recommendations to improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers, while collaborating on programs promoting reconciliation and cultural diversity.
About You:
* You bring substantial experience in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health settings and have a deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, communities, and practices.
* You possess excellent communication and partnership management skills and can mentor and coach teams to build cultural competence.
* Experience with mental health services and community engagement will be highly valued.
* Ideally you have qualifications in health or social sciences and relevant registrations or certifications (though not mandatory).
