About your opportunity
Fixed term temporary part time, commencing 03.02.2025 up to 01.02.2026, 38 hours per fortnight
Level of appointment is dependent on experience and advanced qualifications.
This is a high-volume, 12-month clinical fellowship in colorectal surgery in Townsville University Hospital with abundant opportunity to develop an academic career in colorectal surgery. The successful candidate will also be encouraged to complete a Master of Philosophy by publication at the James Cook University.
Generous remuneration package value up to $114,630 p.a. comprising:
1. Salary range of $76.87 to $84.71 p.h. (L10-L13) or $63.45 to $73.56 p.h. (L4-L9)
2. Annual leave with 17.5% loading
3. 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation.

Requirements
4. Possession of Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) qualifications (or equivalent).
5. Current registration or eligibility for registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia.
6. Proof of qualification and registration or membership (if applicable) with the appropriate registration authority or association.
7. This is a Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.
8. Probation period may apply.

The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:
10. Knowledge of current medical practices and issues, and evidence of an appropriate level of expertise in the skills of the discipline.
11. Demonstrated ability to review, analyse and evaluate patient care for the identification of appropriate treatment and investigations.
12. Ability to maintain accurate and complete medical records – clinical, administrative and statistical.
13. Well-developed communication skills (written, oral and interpersonal skills) with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff and hospital clients from a variety of backgrounds.
14. A personal commitment to the maintenance of high standards in the clinical care to patients and proven ability to react promptly to emergency or urgent situations impacting upon patient care.
15. Ability to practice medicine in a cross-cultural environment.
16. Build relationships with patients and members of the multidisciplinary team, using strong communications skills and negotiation skills to understand needs and to deliver a service that meets their needs and policy guidelines.
17. Actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety and ethical behaviour.
