Launceston General Hospital (LGH) in Launceston provides a range of healthcare services and is the major referral hospital for Tasmania’s North and Northwest. LGH is an accredited teaching hospital for most Specialties and has a total of 400 beds.

* Critical Care foundation year - Emergency Department/Intensive Care Unit/Anaesthetics a combination of 3-month and 6-month rotations
* Surgical training pathways - Colorectal/Upper Gastrointestinal/Breast & Endocrine/Orthopaedics/Urology/Plastics/ENT
* Paediatric and O&G foundation year - 3-month and 6-month rotations available for preferencing
* General Practice rotations - St Helens, Scottsdale, and Northern Midlands (Longford and Perth)

Renal, Respiratory, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Oncology, Haematology, Stroke, General Medicine A, B, C & D, Acute Medical Unit, Outreach

General Surgery, Plastics/ENT/Ophthalmology, Colorectal, Orthopaedics, Urology, Upper Gastrointestinal, Breast & Endocrine
Other rotations include:
Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Anaesthetics, Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry, Rehabilitation Medicine
RMO support and opportunities
We pride ourselves on our teaching and support programs for new RMOs, The RMO year(s) formulate and play a key role in medical careers as the principal foundation years to enable young doctors to choose career specialties.
This includes orientation to the healthcare system, hospital, and departments. Pastoral support is provided and tailored to the needs of individual RMOs.
Learning opportunities include regular and structured RMO teaching and tutorials within each department. On-site teaching facilities include tutorial rooms, skills/simulation laboratories and a well-equipped library. Dedicated staff tailor the teaching and education program to the needs of RMOs. Events such as ‘Basic Assessment & Support in Intensive Care (BASIC Course), Emergency Paediatric and School of Medicine Short courses’, Advanced Life Support etc are offered.
LGH has close partnership with the University of Tasmania through the Launceston Clinical School. Research and innovation are encouraged and supported throughout the hospital with research sponsored by the Clifford Craig Medical Research Trust.
Incentives
A relocation reimbursement may be available after commencement for applicants moving from interstate or overseas upon appropriate quotes to be provided and approved by the EDMS.
The Role:
Responsible for the day to day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the Hospital (or rural facility).
Provide after-hours emergency cover as determined by the relevant work unit.
Rotations to Rural Practice sites across the stat are available.

Details of appointment:
Fixed term full time, day worker with on, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from 2 June 2026 unti l 13 June 202.

Salary:
Resident Medical Officers Level 2 - 4 $95,275 - $108,150 per annum, pro rata + 11.5% superannuation + access to salary packaging
* Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022
