As the Coordinator – Custody Notification Service, you will play a crucial role in ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in custody are provided with appropriate legal and welfare support. What you'll be doing Manage the Custody Notification Service, a 24-hour legal advice and support phone line ensuring efficient and responsive operations Provide immediate legal advice and referrals to Aboriginal people held in police custody Coordinate the delivery of essential welfare services, including accessing medical care and connecting with family members Liaise with police, courts, and other stakeholders to advocate for the rights and wellbeing of detainees Maintain detailed records and prepare reports on the Custody Notification Service's activities Contribute to the development of policies and procedures to continuously improve the service Supervise and support a team of case workers to deliver high-quality client services What we're looking for Admission (or eligibility for admission) as a legal practitioner in the Northern Territory with a minimum of 3 years post-admission experience in criminal law An understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal children in the child protection and justice system A demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their history and culture Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with the capacity to work under pressure Experience in effectively managing and developing a diverse team to deliver high-quality client services Requirements Ability to obtain a satisfactory "Working with Children Clearance" (Ochre Card) upon commencement Satisfactory criminal history check and no history of disqualification from employment by a legal practice Ability and willingness to undertake shift work Apply now to join our dedicated team and make a positive impact!
