Senior Policy Officer - Traditional Owner CorporationThis is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Policy Professional to join our growing organisation for an initial 12-month full-time contract.
The work arrangements can be flexible.The Policy Officer will work closely with the CEO and operate at a high-level interacting with government agencies in evidence-based policy development and implementation.
You will be advising the CEO, the executive team and the Board on policy matters as it relates to YYNAC and its role as a RAP organisation.
The position will also contribute to, working across YYNAC to deliver analysis and advice that meet the needs of the organisation.
This requires strong analytical and communication skills in a policy setting, along with an ability to influence stakeholders and work effectively in a team environment.ABOUT THE ROLEThe role sits within the Corporate team and has the following responsibilities and accountabilities:Undertake research and analysis of government policy that applies to YYNACDevelop suitable responses for YYNAC to government policy matters and advise executive teams and the BoardBuild and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders including other state government agencies and other jurisdictions to facilitate effective, evidence-based policy analysisAttend high-level meetings as TOC Caucus meetings with other traditional owner organisations and government agencies alongside the CEOPrepare and present accurate, concise, timely and relevant policy documentation, briefings, correspondence, submissions, and reports for a range of audiences.Contribute to project management activities, including project planning, identification, and management of risks, and ensure that project deliverables align with work program and project objectives.Contribute to building and maintaining a constructive culture within YYNAC, including by modelling to other staff, demonstrating self-management, a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues, and the ability to work effectively under limited supervision.ABOUT YOUExperience in undertaking high-level policy analysis and providing policy advice to a CEO and Board.Demonstrated experience and skills in working with multiple stakeholders, including government and statutory authorities on policy development and negotiation.Have a thorough understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal Engagement framework and the first people's self-determination frameworks.Ability to work under limited supervision, solve problems and prioritise workload for self to accomplish business outcomes.Knowledge of Victorian Aboriginal cultures and societies and demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively.An understanding of legislative and regulation making processes is desirable.Tertiary qualification(s) in social sciences, public policy, natural resources and environmental management, law or similar is desirable.A current Victorian or Australian Driver's Licence.EXPERIENCE OF WORKING IN A GOVERNMENT AGENCY WITH INTERACTIONS WITH TRADITIONAL OWNER ORGANISATIONS WILL BE VIEWED FAVOURABLYWHAT WE OFFER YOU• Negotiable Salary plus generous salary packaging of $15,900 available for Part- or Full-time employees• Access to free and confidential Employment Assistance ProgramWe strongly encourage applications from Yorta Yorta peoples and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.How do your skills match this job?Your application will include the following questions:How many years' experience do you have with project planning and scheduling?How many years' experience do you have as a policy officer?How many years of project management experience do you have?Do you have a current Australian driver's licence?Which of the following statements best describes your right to work in Australia?To help fast track investigation, please include here any other relevant details that prompted you to report this job ad as fraudulent / misleading / discriminatory.
