Location Profile Much like the town of Williamstown itself, Williamstown High School is steeped in a rich history. Role An education support class position at this range will perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction. This may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.
Responsibilities Typical duties of a Science Laboratory Technician:
Report directly to the Curriculum Leaders. Liaise with science/art teaching staff on their needs for practical work and maintain an efficient system for use and allocation of materials and equipment, setting a priority system where necessary. Assist science teaching staff in instructing students on use/care of equipment during science experiments. Assist science teaching staff in safety matters relating to the science laboratory. Attend appropriate professional development. Storage of equipment and materials, maintenance of laboratory equipment and the specialist cleaning of equipment, preparation areas in rooms. Maintain storerooms ensuring as far as practicable that these areas are kept clean and tidy. Assist in caring of animals and plants in the science area in accordance with current DET handling and animal ethics guidelines. Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and Risk Assessment forms of chemicals as used in School Laboratory. Including any OHS requirements. Assist with the overall organisation and maintenance of laboratories, preparation areas and rooms. Dispose of hazardous materials, including chemical residues, deteriorated stock and biological waste, according to DET guidelines. Assist staff and technical staff in safety matters relating to the science laboratories. Complete stock takes as required. Prepare and operate equipment in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines and school policy. Maintain Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety goggles, lab coats etc. Assist teachers in relation to their students' equipment needs. Use of computers both for record keeping and as used in classrooms. Complete risk assessments for all solution preparation in the laboratory. Other duties as directed by the Principal or Assistant Principal. Who May Apply Individuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfill the specific requirements of the position.
