Aboriginal Wellbeing Worker Adult Survivors Program- IdentifiedOur client is committed to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through dedicated health and community services addressing issues such as domestic and family violence, sexual assault, mental health, child development, and family support.Their mission emphasizes culturally responsive care, fostering healing and advocacy for Aboriginal communities impacted by trauma.Using a holistic approach, the team partners with local agencies to provide essential services that prioritize safety, cultural connection, and empowerment—focusing on children, families, and individuals at risk of or recovering from violence and complex trauma.About the Role: As an Aboriginal Wellbeing Support Worker within the Adult Survivors Program, you will play a key role in empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults who are survivors of child sexual abuse and complex trauma.This newly funded program, a part of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District's commitment to holistic, culturally safe care, is focused on meeting the unique needs of Aboriginal adults with additional support needs in mental health and substance use recovery.Key Responsibilities: Provide culturally sensitive, trauma-informed case management, counseling, and advocacy for Aboriginal adults who are survivors of child sexual assault.This includes conducting assessments, coordinating care, and planning interventions.Build strong connections with Aboriginal communities and collaborate with local services, ensuring that program approaches are relevant, respectful, and rooted in the community's cultural needs.Offer cultural consultation and training to the Adult Survivors Program team, ensuring that services are delivered in a culturally safe manner and that staff understand the cultural context and impacts of intergenerational trauma.Work with Aboriginal Health, Mental Health, Sexual Assault, and Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) services to create an integrated support system that effectively addresses complex needs.Develop and lead community workshops and training sessions to strengthen cultural competency and provide insight into the unique needs of Aboriginal survivors of trauma.Accurately document client interactions, complete assessments, and adhere to ISLHD policies, ensuring confidentiality and accountability in all aspects of care.Key Challenges: Responding to the needs of Aboriginal communities affected by intergenerational trauma, and balancing these needs with available resources.Navigating complex cases autonomously while maintaining a culturally safe, high-quality standard of care.Managing the emotional impacts of working with trauma survivors by engaging in culturally specific and peer supervision to support well-being and address vicarious trauma.About You: To thrive in this role, you'll need: Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage (as per the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW) and be Male (as per Section 31(2h) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW).Vaccination Compliance: Fully meet NSW Health vaccination requirements with documented immunisation history.Relevant qualifications or experience, with a willingness to work toward a Certificate IV in Aboriginal Family Wellbeing & Violence Prevention Work or an Advanced Diploma of Aboriginal Specialist Trauma Counselling.A deep understanding of intergenerational trauma and its impacts on individuals and families within Aboriginal communities.Strong communication skills to work effectively with Aboriginal communities and deliver culturally respectful support and advocacy.Why Join?
