Responsibilities during bidding:
Contributes, under the supervision of the Bid Technical Manager, to the bid technical study.
Proposes and/or develops engineering solutions and construction means and methods.
Proposes and/or develops Alternative Technical Concept (ATC) and/or Value Engineering (VE) solutions.
Optimizes engineering solutions developed by external designers and consultants, also based on specific efficiency and sustainability requests from Project Owner.
Interfaces, as required, with Operations for contributions on project organizational and operational aspects.
Reviews designers’ scope of work and budget prior to submission of technical/price proposals.
Participates in designer interviews and selection during teaming phase.
Responsibilities during construction:
Creates the functional link between Lane Corporate Engineering and the Project Engineering Team, establishing a direct interface with the Project Technical Point of Contact through regular meetings and site visits.
In alignment with the Operations Area Senior Vice President ensures proper organization and staffing of the Project Engineering Team across all projects in assigned area.
Monitors project engineering and design progress and helps the project address issues as needed.
Collaborates with Corporate Scheduling and (Design) Quantities Management for effective project monitoring in relation to scheduling and quantity management.
Provides engineering support to the projects, through the engagement of various functions in Lane
Engineering Department and/or Webuild Design Services.
Recommends technical solutions, methods and alternatives to the Project Technical Point of Contact while reporting to Lane Engineering Director engineering and design risks, opportunities, and threats.
Develops, reviews and revises engineering procedures, promoting common best practices and procedures across all projects in assigned area.
Collects best practices and procedures from projects in assigned area to support know‐how growth of Lane Engineering Department.
Fosters trusting relationships within regional engineering community yet holds individuals accountable.
Maintains designer performance records and delivers constructive feedback.
Coaches and develops Project Technical Managers in technical and leadership competencies.
Reviews designer claims and change orders.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Travels approximately 20% during bidding and construction phases.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Construction Management
10 years of engineering experience in heavy civil construction projects, preferably highways/bridges
Experience with Design-Build coordination
Excellent communication skills
