Are you ready to shape the future of Victoria's forest management? The Department of Energy, Environment, and Climate Action (DEECA) is looking for an experienced leader to join our Bushfire and Forest Services (BFS) Group as the Director of Forest Policy. As Director of Forest Policy, you will have the opportunity to lead the development of contemporary policy frameworks to sustain and protect Victoria's diverse forest landscapes.
In this role, you will drive the development of innovative strategies, oversee regulatory policies, and play a key role in ensuring responsible forest management within Victoria. You will provide clear environmental policy direction for forest-based industries, collaborate with the Conservation Regulator, and oversee timber harvesting activities to ensure compliance and sustainability.
A successful applicant will have a strong background in public policy, environmental management, or a related field. You will identify emerging issues and opportunities, lead the development of strategic initiatives, and represent DEECA in state and national forums, influencing policy at the highest levels.

About you:
To be successful in the role, you will have:
* Tertiary qualification(s) in science, law, economics, public policy, natural resource or environmental management, business management or similar is desirable.
* Significant experience developing and implementing policy frameworks and processes aligned to government and statutory requirements to deliver agreed outcomes is essential.
* Experience in forest or forestry policy would be an advantage.
* Proven ability to lead and inspire a high-performing, customer-focused workforce, manage and guide teams effectively, and communicate a compelling vision that drives commitment and enthusiasm.
* Demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, translating vision into actionable goals, and identifying innovative opportunities for policy reform.
* Strong understanding of governance standards, risk management, and ethical accountability, particularly within the public sector.
* Skilled in building strategic partnerships, fostering stakeholder buy-in, and utilizing shared objectives to develop innovative, collaborative solutions.

This is a fixed term position available for a period of up to 5 years. The work location for this position is flexible within Victoria with hybrid work arrangements available.
