Messenger Cole Solicitors is a boutique law firm with offices in Sydney and Orange NSW. We advise and represent Local Government/Councils and private developers, businesses and individuals in all aspects of Town Planning, Environment, Local Government, Property, Conveyancing, Wills & Estates and Commercial Litigation matters.
The Firm is experiencing sustained rapid growth so we are seeking a junior solicitor or recent graduate (0-2 years experience in any area of law but a background in Town Planning is preferrable) to work in our close-knit Planning, Development and Environment Law team.
The role:
Full-time role based in our Sydney office (although part-time applicants are still encouraged to apply).
You will be assisting predominately one Partner who has over 35 years of specialist experience in the area as a solicitor, barrister, town planner and lecturer, and his Senior Associate with:
Drafting legal advices on all aspects of development approvals, land use and zoning, and interpretation of complex planning and legislative instruments. Preparing Land and Environment Court applications and other Court documents, briefs to Kings Counsel, and briefs to expert witnesses across many disciplines including town planning, traffic, heritage, engineering, acoustic and ecology. Assisting in the day-to-day conduct of Land and Environment Court proceedings including development appeals, tree disputes and enforcement and prosecution matters. Appearing for clients at Court directions hearings and collecting judgments. Successful candidates will:
Be admitted as a solicitor in NSW (or will be admitted in the near future). Have at least 1 years' experience in law preferably (but this is not essential). Be interested in all aspects of town planning, development and environment law, as well as Land and Environment Court litigation and advocacy. Have a strong desire to further their career in this area in a boutique specialist Firm, although there will be opportunities to work in other areas depending on long-term interests. Have strong organisational skills to allow for timely management of deadlines and day to day client matter progression with some autonomy. Have strong written communication and research skills for legal advices and client communications. Be self-motivated and driven to both learn and achieve the best results for clients, their team and themselves. We offer:
